The proposal is for a contemporary addition to the rear elevation of the original grade II listed house at Ash Street Farm and an extension to a former garage building on the site – the objective of the works is to introduce a accessible bedroom, bathroom and living space to the ground floor of the property.

The form of the proposal is modern and reads as a new building adjoining the historic farmhouse. Detailing is careful and glazed at the junctions with the historic building, ensuring the elevation does not lose legibility. To improve the thermal performance of the existing farmhouse, an insulating external render, Diathonite, is to be applied over the existing render and brick surfaces.
