Suffolk Farmstead Masterplan

Sector

Residential

The vision for this disused farmstead is to create a sustainable community within an attractive agricultural setting connected to the nearby village, its geography and traditions.

Following the declaration of an Environment and Biodiversity Emergency in West Suffolk in 2019, West Suffolk Council launched an Environmental and Climate Change Task Force to evaluate current progress and develop new avenues to help reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

This proposal responds to the challenge and is a flagship example of how to design ethically in light of the climate emergency. Our landscape-led approach embeds new homes with a light carbon footprint into an agricultural setting within the wider village context. It is a place where people, young and old, can enjoy contemporary modes of living and working.

In addition to following the brief and latest planning policies the development will conceptually draw inspiration from the Suffolk agricultural and farmstead historic context in both the architectural aesthetic and layout of the masterplan.
