Shelley Priory Barn

Sector

Residential

Shelley Priory sits at the northern boarder of the Dedham Vale Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The hamlet constitutes a series of farm building, cottages and the 16th Century, Grade II listed Sparrows Farm House, nestled in the rolling fields and picturesque countryside made famous by painters such as Constable and Gainsborough.

The project itself is for the conversion of a redundant farm building - an Atcost, mid-20th c., portal frame structure that has be stripped of its asbestos cladding – into a home that sits comfortably within the farmyard context. A wooden timber screen envelops the house and enforces the silhouette of a the existing barn, whilst allowing the living spaces within to be carved out and arranged into a generous, open and welcoming home full of light and expansive country views.
