This new 2-bedroom home is a single storey pavilion connecting to a circular brick two storey tower inspired by the windmill that once occupied the site.

Within, the central space is open and lit from a circular oculus flooding natural light deep into the room. The cruciform plan accommodates the kitchen and main bedroom while around the edge there are terraces at each corner. The tower houses a library on the ground floor and an ensuite bedroom above. It has been designed with the possibility that it could become a stand-alone apartment for a future carer, with its own side door and access into the kitchen.

Sustainable construction principles led to well-insulated walls, solar panels on the roof, high levels of airtightness and heat recovery ventilation. The design strives for net-zero carbon and the build achieved AECB accreditation.
