Fenn Street Farm

Catalogue
The site comprises the former thatched farmhouse, an original barn constructed of flint and masonry and a cart lodge clad in timber, which is a newer addition and is typical of the small agricultural farmsteads of the area.
The proposal involves the replacement of the existing 19th century rear extension with a new enlarged extension to provide a generous family kitchen dining room with additional bedroom and bathrooms over, conversion of the existing barn to create a one-bedroom ground floor annexe, the provision of a glazed link from the new extension to the existing redundant barn to create an intimate enclosed courtyard, and the replacement of the existing 3-bay cart lodge with a new slightly larger cart lodge suitable for the dimensions of modern vehicles.
The new additions of the rear extension and glazed link are to be contemporary in nature with dark stained vertical cladding and zinc standing seam roofing. This will create an appropriate juxtaposition to the timeless character of the existing thatched farmhouse.
In-roof solar panels are to be introduced to the south facing pitch of the barn and to the east and west facing pitches of the new cart lodge. The existing farmhouse is to be upgraded through the addition of a breathable insulating render to the exterior walls, which will improve thermal performance.
