Basilico Pizza

Basilico is conceived as a group of upmarket and stylish take away pizza restaurants specialising in a very high quality product, baked in a wood fired oven and with a supporting range of fresh juices and salads, coffees etc. Deliveries are made via Piaggio Vespas bearing the corporate livery.

Project Orange was appointed to carry out concept design work and then complete the first unit at Lavender Hill, with a second in the Fulham Road. The client was interested in challenging all preconceptions about 'take away' pizza restaurants.

We felt it was important to celebrate the use of fresh natural produce by incorporating an abundant open market type display of fresh herbs, vegetables & fruit. In the palette of materials the 'natural' was represented by the use of rough oak for panelling and seating elements. The signature colour palette of bright green, black and white is intended as the embodiment of 'fresh'. An open kitchen provides a sense of theatre as the customers can see the chefs preparing their pizza and putting it into the wood fired oven, a dominant element in the design, finished in matt black tiles with the mouth framed in stainless steel. Customers are made to feel that they are within the kitchen….
