Oatlands Drive

Oatlands Drive is a proposed new build home for a retired couple in Weybridge, Surrey. Project Orange previously worked with the couple on their existing property and therefore knew very well their tastes, likes and dislikes. Project Orange have therefore been able to design a new home, tailored to suit the couple down to the last detail, whilst also responding to the restriction imposed owing to the proportions and confines of the site.

The new house is part two-storey, part single storey. The principal living quarters of kitchen, reception rooms and master bedroom suite occupy the ground floor, with three further bedrooms to the upper storey. The L-shaped form of the dwelling is anchored by three painted brick chimneys. The two wings embrace a partially sunken garden creating a quiet, secluded space, which has a direct relationship with the principal living quarters. The painted brickwork is softened by the use of natural hardwood windows, which project in relation to the wall plane animating the facades with playful shadows.
