In April 2007 Project Orange were invited to submit proposals for the redevelopment of 2 key neighbouring sites forming part of the Salford regeneration plan. Site investigations generated 3 principle masterplanning strategies, looking at massing, urban context, pedestrian and vehicle movement, commercial viability, light and landscape. The three schemes were then developed to illustrate the potential residential and commercial accommodation and to consider form and materials. Finally, a series of typical individual dwellings that could be repeated throughout the site were explored in more detail to ensure that the scheme delivered practical, affordable, attractive and well-designed homes.
Unfortunately we were not appointed for the job, but our submission impressed the English Cities Fund, in part leading to our subsequent appointment for the project at Canning Town.
