oatlands drive, weybridge
Oatlands Drive is a new build home for a couple in Weybridge, Surrey. As existing local residents, the couple took the decision to develop the grounds surrounding their existing property to provide a new home for themselves and subsequently sell off the existing house. Project Orange previously worked with the couple on their existing property, therefore an acute awareness of their tastes, likes and dislikes had already been established. Project Orange have therefore been able to design a new home, tailored to suit the couple down to the last detail, while also responding to the restriction imposed owing to the proportions and confines of the site.
The new house is a part two-storey, part single storey construction. The principal living quarters occupy the ground floor, with three further bedrooms to the two-storey portion of the residence. The L-shaped form of the dwelling is anchored by three painted brick chimneys. These form a private, partially sunken garden creating a quiet, secluded space, which has a direct relationship with the principal living quarters of the property. The painted brickwork is softened by the use of natural hardwood windows, which project in relation to the wall plane animating the facades with playful shadows. The house is currently in the planning stage.
